Perilla and perilla oil has been known throughout Southeast Asia since ancient times, when consumed as green vegetables, condiments and herbs. History of Perilla Oil:

For centuries, Perilla has been used in traditional Chinese, Ayurvedic, Japanese and Asian medicine to treat all kinds of ailments. Of all the oil plants, Perilla is one of the few that provides both vegetable oil and essential oil. Perilla frutescens is a herbaceous plant of the same family (lamiaceae) as mint, rosemary, basil, sage or thyme. Originally from the East, Perilla is a plant that grows naturally in Southeast Asia, from the Himalayas to Burma. A true sacred plant in Asia, is cultivated and consumed in an ancestral way in China (called Zi-Su) and Japan (called Shiso). The best qualities are found in Japan for essential oil and in China for vegetable oil. For centuries, in the east, we cook seafood with perilla leaves and seeds, to avoid food allergies.
